What is a Multi Effect Evaporator (MEE) System?

A Multi Effect Evaporator (MEE) is an energy-efficient system that uses the principle of evaporation and condensation to remove water from industrial effluent and concentrate the dissolved solids. The process involves multiple stages (effects), where the vapor generated in one effect is reused as the heating medium for the next effect, drastically reducing steam consumption and energy costs.

Working Principle of MEE System

  • Feed Collection & Preheating:
    The effluent from the process is collected in a feed tank and preheated using heat exchangers to improve evaporation efficiency.

  • Evaporation in Multiple Effects:
    The preheated effluent enters the first effect, where it is boiled under vacuum conditions. The vapor generated in this effect is used as the heating medium for the next effect, and this continues across multiple stages — typically 3 to 7 effects.

  • Condensation & Recovery:
    Vapors from the last effect are condensed into pure water, which can be reused within the plant or safely discharged.

  • Concentration of Solids:
    The remaining concentrate (high TDS/TSS) is collected and either reused or sent for further drying, depending on the nature of the industry
