Demineralization Plant (DM Plant)

— High-Purity Water Treatment Solutions by Econexis Engineering

At Econexis Engineering, we design and manufacture advanced Demineralization (DM) Plants that produce ultra-pure, mineral-free water for a wide range of industrial and process applications.

Our DM Plants utilize ion exchange technology to remove dissolved salts, minerals, and ionic impurities from raw water — delivering water with high purity, ideal for boilers, pharmaceuticals, textiles, power generation, and laboratories.

With years of experience and precision engineering, Econexis offers custom-built, fully automated DM systems that guarantee consistency, efficiency, and reliability in every drop.

What is a Demineralization (DM) Plant?

A Demineralization Plant (or Deionization Plant) is a specialized water treatment system that removes all types of dissolved ionic impurities through the cation and anion exchange process.

In simple terms, DM water is free from dissolved salts, hardness, and minerals, making it suitable for high-quality process water where even minor impurities can affect product quality or equipment performance.

Working Principle of a DM Plant

The DM process is based on ion exchange using strong acid cation (SAC) and strong base anion (SBA) resins.

Here’s how it works step by step:

  • Cation Exchange Process:
Raw water first passes through a cation exchanger where positively charged ions (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Na⁺) are replaced by hydrogen ions (H⁺).
  • Anion Exchange Process:
The partially treated water then enters an anion exchanger, where negatively charged ions (Cl⁻, SO₄²⁻, NO₃⁻) are replaced by hydroxyl ions (OH⁻).
  • Formation of Pure Water:
The H⁺ and OH⁻ ions combine to form H₂O, resulting in pure, demineralized water with conductivity as low as 0.1 µS/cm.
  • Regeneration Process:
Once exhausted, the resin beds are regenerated using acid (HCl) for the cation exchanger and alkali (NaOH) for the anion exchanger, restoring them for reuse.
